“YOUTH IN ACTION” Program

“YOUTH IN EUROPE – SAME DIFFERENCE”

Participants:
Tabitha Bulgaria Foundation (BG)

Stichting Help Tabitha (NL)

Partner on the Tabitha side – young group of people from Home for children deprived of parental cares”N.Vaptzarov” – Roman (BG)

The project aims to exchange groups of young people from different cultures from Europe. About 15 young volunteers from Help Tabitha Stichting (Putten, Holland) will visit the Home for Children Deprived of Parental Cares “N. Vaptzarov” (Roman, Bulgaria) for two weeks in July (3-17). The young people will work in few directions. Every day they will exchange information about the way of life and the prospects of the young people in Holland and Bulgaria in the context of the two countries being members of the European Union. Both groups will learn about the history, culture and life of the young people in the respective countries. The participants will be looking for common denominators that connect them, they will find out what they have in common and what makes them alike. The young people will discuss their cultural differences, which make their identity unique and they will learn to respect the other culture. The cross-cultural environment in which they will spend 14 days will contribute to their better understanding, tolerance toward the unfamiliar, consideration and empathy with the problems of the “others”. The mutual activities will help them get to know each other, to strike friendships and will draw them closer. Special attention will be paid to the responsibility of the young people to the building of Europe’s future and their active role in establishing a democratic society. Their knowledge, better understanding and trust in each other will make Europe a better place to live.
To make the young people feel at ease we plan various activities during their visit: cheering up the atmosphere in the orphanage by painting the walls of their living space in bright colors and by drawing pictures on them; by organizing discussions and exchange of opinions on the role of the young people in the European development, by exchanging roles, working out art sessions, by sightseeing of natural and historical sites in the Vratza region, the Balkan and Sofia. We will focus on the ideas which will challenge the active participation of the young people in Europe’s future.

Goals and priorities:

The basic topic of the exchange is the role and the responsibility of the young people for the future of United Europe.
Today the Dutch partners are helping the underprivileged young people from newly accepted country member of EU but tomorrow those same young people will take the responsibility to render support to the next new members.
The goals of the project with the basic priorities of the Program in Action:

  • exchange of the young people from different cultures in Europe
  • cross-cultural relations
  • inclusion of underprivileged young people
  • 2010 priority – Struggle with poverty and social exclusion

Topic(s) of the projects

The basic topics for discussion are:

  • the common and different in the young people from the two cultures – learning to tolerate, respect each other, compassion and mutual aid/support
  • the respect of the young people to the European values, their responsibility and active participation in shaping the future of our common European home
  • the life of young people from different cultures within the context of United Europe
  • struggle with poverty and levers to fight against it
